VET SCHOOL SPORTS TEAMS
We take our sports almost as seriously as we take our socials . . . we mean studies! If you want to build up friendships and create a unique relationship with people in your year and upper years, joining a sports team is one definite way to do that regardless of experience! We strongly encourage you at Glasgow to have a healthy balance of studying, exercising, and socializing!
Our biggest sports day is Dick Day which takes place every November. Glasgow Vets take on the Edinburgh 'Dick' Vets in brutal head to head battles in each individual sport to win the bragging rights for a year of being Dick Day champions!
Come out to the Freshers Fayre to meet some team and club members and get information on trainings. If you missed out on Freshers Fayre, no worries! You can join any team during any training session, just show up and check out the Facebook group for training times and places!
We have both an 11-a-side team and a 7-a-side team. We play in an inter-faculty league, and our biggest game is against Edinburgh Dick Vets on Dick Day each year in November. Vets and Biovets - catch us at Freshers Fayre in September! All are welcome!
We train once a week for the biggest and most exciting sports day of vet school....DICK DAY! Come out to a practice if you're keen on kicking some balls and Dicks. We also have friendlies with other clubs and the main uni football team. All experiences welcome! After Dick Day, the practices become more like socials and are great fun!
GLASGOW VET DANCE CREW - BVM$
BVM$ Crew is the Glasgow vet dance crew founded in 2016. Specialising in street styles such as hip hop, breakin’, poppin’ and lyrical, we offer training development and performance opportunities for vet students from all levels. We've performed at the Trusty Paws Christmas Ceilidh as well as Rodeo 2017 and plan on continuing to perform at different vet school events. If you're keen, join us!
We are a mixed field hockey club who train once a week throughout the year on a local AstroTurf pitch. We play matches against the medics, dentists, and local young farmer teams, but our biggest match of the year is against the Edinburgh vets on Dick Day!
The Vet Riding Team is separate from the main university's team, but you may compete with both. We compete on Dick Day and the International Riding Team Competition hosted by Edinburgh University. We enter two teams with four riders each for Dick Day, and one team with three to four riders during IRTC.
We hold trainings up until Dick Day! Times and days of training may vary, so check the Facebook group for details! Players are also welcome to join the Main University Women's or Men's teams that train on Tuesday and Thursdays 7-8.30pm.
Note for men: mixed lacrosse uses womens sticks and womens' rules.
We train twice a week from and our biggest day of the year is Dick Day! We also have friendlies with local teams. We hold trainings in the horse arena at the veterinary school and do drills, shooting practice, and fitness.
Everyone is welcome to come along and train no matter what your experience!
We have training every couple of weeks at Stewarton Polo Club which is half an hour away by train. Beginners take lessons before they pay membership, and members can practice chukkas and matches. Whether you’re a seasoned player or you’ve never sat on horse before, everyone is welcome to join and help continue our winning streak on Dick Day!
All vets and biovets welcome! Catch us at Freshers Fayre or check out our Facebook to get the full club details. We train two nights a week, and play the medics, lawyers, engineers, dentists, and the Dicks during Dick Day. We also have a unique game day called Old Boys. An enjoyable conclave taking on the old graduated men, with court and a night out post-game.
We’re a team that welcomes everyone regardless of experience! We usually have sessions twice a week from the first week of term until Dick Day. Post-Dick Day, we try to keep up a session pre week for the girls interested in fitness. We also arrange a friendly Pre-Dick Day game with the main uni girls for those of you who have never played on full pitch!
