The Society for “All Creatures Great, Small, Slimy, and Tall" – James Herriot.

The Glasgow University Veterinary Zoological Society is a student run organisation founded in the early '90s by Brendan Godley that aims to inform veterinary students on the wonders of Zoological, Wildlife, Exotic and Conservation medicine. We fill in the gaps left by the current undergraduate course which are getting bigger as years go by.
We provide learning opportunities to members by organising lectures and practicals on a wide variety of topics including: conservation medicine in South Africa; orangutan rescue, rehabilitation, and treatment; a Marine Mammal Medic Course and postmortem demonstrations; and UK wildlife case description and investigation workshops. That’s just the tip of the iceberg as we hold online and in person events throughout the year to hear from exotic animal veterinarians and professionals from around the world to learn more about this fascinating area of veterinary medicine. Joining GUVZS is a great way to learn more about EMS/externship opportunities and meet students with similar interests as we provide real life applications to lectures. What better way is there to learn about bird of prey husbandry than having a falconer bring some of his birds into the school and fly them around!!
We also provide a forum where information can be shared between students so you can make friends and connections that will last a lifetime.Furthermore, we pride ourselves on being a charitable society that raises money and awareness throughout the year for as many conservation and animal welfare charities as we can.
Anyone is welcome to join, if you have even the slightest interest in exotics, zoological medicine, wildlife, conservation, epidemiology of emerging diseases, wildlife rehabilitation, marine animal medicine, and everything in between.

Join our community of over 600 people past and present on our GUVZS Facebook page, come to some talks, share your stories, tell your friends and become a member of GUVZS for only £6 which can be paid online on the SRC Website OR at the GUVMA Freshers Fayre!
